  • Michael C. May

    Managing Partner

    Michael C. May is an aggressive litigator who has represented clients in courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia in civil and criminal matters. He has experience in all manner of litigation, having represented both businesses and individuals as plaintiffs and defendants. Mr. May generally focuses his practice on business litigation, employment law, domestic relations/family law, and criminal law. He is licensed to practice in all courts in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Mr. May is fluent in Spanish and has assisted the Firm in numerous litigation matters where such fluency has been required In addition to his work as an attorney, Mr. May spent nine years (2007-2016) serving his home community as an elected member of the Board of County Supervisors in Prince William County, Virginia. In this capacity, he helped oversee the budget for Virginia’s second largest county of almost 450,000 residents. During his tenure in public service, Mr. May has been known as a tireless advocate for his constituents, and he brings this same passion to representing his clients, no matter how big or small their case.

    Amelia W. May works in the firm’s civil division, where she handles family law, employment law, and civil litigation matters. Prior to returning to May Law, LLP (where she served as a clerk throughout law school), Ms. May spent several years with her own solo practice focusing on a range of transactional matters including business and employment issues as well as wills, trusts, and estate planning. Prior to her work as a solo practitioner, Ms. May also spent time representing clients in personal injury matters. Ms. May’s range of experience involving numerous practice areas is invaluable to her clients, as complex litigation matters often cross multiple disciplines. She is able to navigate such matters with ease and achieve the best possible results for her clients. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Amelia May lived in Southern France throughout her youth and went on to study French and History at The College of William and Mary. After receiving her MA in French from Penn State University, Ms. May worked briefly in Paris, then pursued her law degree at night at George Mason University School of Law while working full-time for an international non-profit organization. This work frequently took her to French-speaking Africa, where she assisted in election observation, democracy-building and women’s political initiatives. Amelia W. May resides in Lake Ridge, Virginia, with her husband and three children. She has served as an appointee to her county’s Board of Social Services and in 2016, represented the Occoquan District as a member of Prince William County’s “Strategic Planning Committee.” She volunteered for many years as a board member and officer of SAVAS (Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Services), and recently joined the board of Directors of ACTS (Action in the Community Through Service), her community’s preeminent charitable organization. Finally, Ms. May continues to lead Prince William County’s Art’s Council as Chair of its Board of Directors, where she advocates for the community’s individual artists and member groups.

  • C. Erik Jurgensen

    Upon admission to the Virginia Bar in 1998, Erik Jurgensen became an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney (state prosecutor) for Fairfax County in the office of the legendary prosecutor Robert F. Horan. In that position, he was responsible for criminal and traffic prosecutions in the General District Court, the Juvenile Court and the Circuit Court, ranging from the most basic of traffic cases to jury trials involving complicated criminal litigation. In this role, he prosecuted dozens of DUI, Reckless Driving, Assault and Battery, and Drug Possession cases each and every day. There is little that Mr. Jurgensen has not seen, thus enabling him to help his clients negotiate the confusing maze of criminal / traffic court prosecution. He knows how prosecutors think and work Erik Jurgensen is a native of Northern Virginia. He grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia, and graduated from the St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Alexandria. He was an NCAA athlete at UNC-Chapel Hill, earning a letter as a member of the varsity football team. He clerked on Capitol Hill in the office of Congressman Dan Lungren of California. He attended the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. In the summer of 1995, he studied law at Emmanuel College at the University of Cambridge, England. He joined May Law in 2002 and became a partner in 2008. His practice concentrates on traffic and criminal defense in all Virginia courts and the U.S. District Court for Eastern District of Virginia.
